Minding Your 2s and 3s - How to Build Good Teams on the Fly for Hero Wars

In another post here, I list several teams and at the top talk about 'formations'. In this other post, I list where all the heroes are placed in the line up, as well as which areas each hero targets when they hit an enemy. It would be wise to consider these posts further, so let's do that.

When you choose heroes for a team, you can tell where they will be in the lineup due to the position of heroes I the line that you see. You'll know then, which heroes are going to be the furthest in the front, in the middle, and who will be farthest in the backline. This is helpful.

You should not have more than three heroes in any one line. So, you don't want four mid-line heroes, why? Because what happens when your up against heroes that target the Center and All heroes? All of those heroes are then targets - potentially killing all of your heroes at once.

To avoid this, you should choose heroes that will create formations that are well-balanced.

  • Two front, one mid, two back line heroes
  • Two front, Two mid, One backline.
  • Three front, one mid, one back.
  • Three front, two back.
  • One front, two mid, two back.
  • One front, three mid, one back.
  • One front, one mid, three back.

Thinking in Threes

Most teams require at least two very high damage-dealing heroes, who are featured and then boosted by support heroes for the best synchronicity and power possible. Those Warriors/Mages are going to either be physical or magic-based damage dealers, and this is the first major consideration to make.

Once you know who your two primary damage dealers are going to be, you'll want to consider what kind of team this can overcome easily and prepare it for those circumstances.

If you're building on two Warrior (agility or strength) heroes for a physical team, you should consider whether or not your going to use Critical Hitters. If so, selecting Jet and Sebastian are a great addition to add for support. Leaving only one slot open to fill in this example (see list below). That spot should either be a healer to keep the team alive, or a healing support hybrid hero already selected (such as Nebula), then you'll want someone for defense. Fafnir, a protective hero such as Astaroth, Judge, Julius, etc. or an addition to the team that will highly benefit the entire team's attack penetration, longevity or survivability, such as Phobos or Folio who reduces stats.

In this other post, I have teams that are "incomplete" or one 2-3 heroes. This is why!
Several 'teams' can work great with several different heroes, depending on who you are up against, different support/defense may be necessary to overcome the enemy team lineup. (This is especially true in challenging Pet Adventures and Arena!) Don't be afraid to swap out a slightly lower level hero if it's the one that will challenge the enemy and give you the edge you need!

You should also consider Counter Heroes! These are heroes who are able to shut down another hero specifically. Helios for example, punishes any Critical Hit against his team. When you're up against Jet, or any 1-2 critical hitters, putting Helios on your team is almost a requirement to win... Check this post for a list of ways to counter each and every hero in the game.

Several people worry when they see Dante, Yasmine or Galahad at high level. One of the best ways to disrupt these high-damage dealers is to steal their energy and use of skills. Using Jorgen and/or Nebula can be extremely useful. As well as stun, which can interrupt most skill abilities if timed correctly!

Finally, we can't overlook Pure Damage too often. You can use Pure Damage (such as Heidi or Daredevil) who deal pure damage over several seconds. This is devastating to most teams because as soon as a Damage-To-Whole-Team ability goes off, it can take out an entire team at once! This is a great strategy to use, but also one to watch out for!

Oftentimes, the healer is not able to recover the team quickly enough to survive the pure damage + high damage (from Amira, K'arakh, Galahad, etc). When you're up against pure damage dealers you'll need to rely on high defense heroes, or those with high life values (Mushy, Cleaver, etc). Using key warriors such as Qing Mao to take out tanks very quickly can make a huge difference in being able to quickly overcome teams before they can pure/strike you back to back. Knowing which heroes deal significant pure damage is key in being able to recognize this threat.

Minding the 2s: Knowing Support Heroes

Choose any two of these heroes for your needs, depending on your goals, strategy, and enemy lineups:

  • Helios punishes critical hits
  • Phobos reduces enemy defenses, paralysis
  • Sebastian and Jet - increase Critical Hit potential for whole team
  • Cornellius deals significant damage to high magic/intelligence casters
  • Jorgen steals and disrupts energy gain of the other team
  • Fafnir - produces shield and higher physical damage dealing for highest agily ally on team (play with Dante, K'arakh, etc.)
  • Martha or Thae both heal, and speed up the whole team
  • Corvus puts up a totem that punishes enemy for damage dealt to your allies
  • Lilith - reduces magic defenses for magic dealing allies, and deals Mid-Line area damage
